Are you ready to learn how to write clean, efficient PowerShell scripts? If so you've come to the right place - regardless of how little experience you may have!

Learning to program is a fantastic skill, and if you're a newbie you've ended up in the right place! PowerShell is a fantastic first or second programming language to learn (and master with the help of this book).

There's a ton of other technical guides out there that aren't clear and concise and, in my opinion, use far too much jargon. My job is to teach you in simple, easy-to-follow terms how to get started and excel at PowerShell programming.

You'll find my personal notes and tips peppered throughout the book, making it personal and easy to learn.

Here's a preview of what PowerShell For Beginners! contains....

  • A step back into the history of PowerShell
  • Setting up the PowerShell playground
  • Getting ready to run
  • Customizing the shell and online resources
  • PowerShell versions and consoles explained
  • Discovering commands, parameters, and strings
  • Essential PowerShell terminology
  • Working with PowerShell commands
  • The piping function explained
  • And much, much more!

PowerShell For Beginners! Master the PowerShell Command Line in 24 Hours (Audible Audio Edition) Alex Artuso Jim D Johnston Books

Like many of the short (less than 100 page) "quick intro" books this is designed for an absolute beginner looking to get a fast overview of what PS is and how to use it for Windows. Also like many it glosses over what makes PS unique among shells and how its object integration -- and specifically the importance of objects to the pipeline implementation -- makes it a very powerful tool for admins and many general scripting tasks. It lacks more than a cursory discussion of security features and distributed task execution, two of the most important features to DevOps use of PS in an enterprise environment. For a free text it could be worse but there are much better resources online and far superior cookbooks and guides for less than $30. I try to look at many of these free resources on Kindle to offer suggestions to clients I want to come up-to-speed on a given technology. A few a very good, a few more are just OK, and there are many where you're better off with a Google search. Unfortunately, I feel this book falls in the last category. Despite decent writing, there's not enough significant or unique content to justify the read time.

PowerShell For Beginners! Master the PowerShell Command Line in 24 Hours (Audible Audio Edition) Alex Artuso Jim D Johnston Books Reviews

This command is something that not much computer users understands and its true power and potential. You can run anything and keep it simple with the Powershell and with this book you can master all the commands so you will definitely start to understand everything. It's nice to know your way with the Powershell and I would recommend this to everyone.
I was looking for a book to learn windows power-shell from and a friend of mine recommended this book for me. As a beginner I found most of the power-shell command line functions in this book. It is a very helpful book and it helped me to be more experienced windows administrative.
This book wasn't all that clear or methodical in it's teachings. I did get some value out of it though, and since it was only $2.99 (kindle version) I'm happy, but not ecstatic with what it offered. It's a quick read as it's a "Learn in 24 hours" book. After reading it, I now have vague understanding of what powershell is and what it can do. I think that is all you can expect after a "24 hours" book. Not bad. There were some typos FYI.
If you know nothing about PowerShell then this book will most likely be helpful to you. The book is not complex in any way, and outlines the basic fundamentals for this scripting language. You probably won't be writing full-fledged scripts after reading through this book but you'll be one step closer. Also, I should have looked more carefully at the product details because the book, is only about 6 or 7 inches long, and about half an inch thick. I thought there was more to this book when I purchased it and realized I already knew most of the topics outlined in this book because I searched the internet.
This is a very basic introduction to PowerShell. It focuses on navigating PowerShell commands, but very little information on PowerShell scripting, which is what I wanted to learn to upgrade my batch file scripting. While PowerShell commands can be quite powerful, they pale in comparison to what you can do with PowerShell scripting. Piping, stringing the output of one command to another command, is as close to scripting as this book covers.
Not much content. Not enough examples. A number of mistakes including the section on importing .CSV and .XML files that were piped to the get-process cmdlet. Also, one example displayed the use of 'out-file', but displayed it as 'outfile', which is not a valid parameter (I suspect it was a typo, but you cannot publish typos when it comes to coding since every character is critical.)
This book is pure crap. In the first 20 pages they tell you to change the font type and size 3 times. Save yourself some money. Use the Get-Help option or use ss64.com for information about Powershell commands. If you need a book spend a few extra dollars and go with Learn Windows PowerShell in a Month of Lunches. One star is generous.
